Blitz, brains and leisure

The organizers have arranged the following leisure for the benefit of the visiting chess players during the Reykjavik open 2009.

Reykjavik Blitz 2009:

Two strong blitz qualifiers will be held on 25th March & 26th March.

Each qualifier will be a 9 round open tournament and the rate of play will be 5 minutes for each game. Four players will advance to the finals from each qualifying tournament. They will be joined by eight invited players. Before (and during) the closing ceremony the 16 player K.O. tournament will be played out.

Gullfoss, Geysir & Bobby:

A specially arranged sightseeing tour for our foreign visitors to the South of Iceland. A bus will leave Reykjavik city at 9:00 a.m. and will take you to the breathtaking Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir – the world famous hotspring (where lunch will be served), and the final resting place of the legendary Bobby Fischer, just outside the town of Selfoss.

The tour will take approx. 5 hours.

Included in this package is the busride, a guide to the sights, lunch at Geysir Cafe and a short lecture on Fischer in the chapel. The price is 60 euros per person. There are limited seats in this tour.

Chess Pub Quiz:

A special social gathering on a friday night at a pub in 101 Reykjavik – the heart of Reykjavik's renown nightlife. Participants form a team of two and then answer 30 questions about chess  (in English).  Great starting point towards a journey into the capital's nightlife.
